- Literacy Volunteers raise $1100!
Sandy Pollock accepts check from Golden Girl Linda C. after a successful fund raising event Friday evening at Abingdon Episcopal Church Parish Hall. The event included a Wine and Cheese Party, a Silent Auction of Premier Jewelry, and a Golden Girls Party where people brought their old, unwanted, or broken gold or silver jewelry to sell for immediate payment. Golden Girls donated 12.5% of the amount of gold and silver they purchased to the Literacy Volunteers. It was great FUN and a great fundraiser!

One Simple Wish is our featured and most “liked” charity on our Share the Shine Facebook page this week. One Simple Wish grants wishes to deserving children and families in need; especially, foster children, at-risk youth and impoverished families. But it’s more than that. Some of their programs include Wish to Work, helping foster kids 16+ learn job skills to become self-sustaining adults; LILA (Learn, Inspire, Lead, Act) offering mentoring opportunities for teens by successful professional women; as well as MIA, Mommies in action, which offers ways for moms of all socio-economic groups to involve their children in community service. One of our top “liked” charities so far for our Share the Shine campaign is a wonderful organization called Jessica Rocks.Jessica Rocks is an organization started by Holly and Jason Sweeney in honor of their daughter JESSICA, and her brave battle against Childhood Cancer.
Jessica Rocks raises money to support ‘Timmy’s Fund’, an organization established to help families who are currently battling childhood cancer. You can learn more about Timmy’s Fund and how they have helped many families through their struggle at www.timmysfund.org.
